Axis system for transformer doors

To handle, position and align the doors of large power transformers, we have developed a heavy load pick&place system featuring five HIWIN linear axes and an integrated rotary axis. The solution ensures the safe movement of these heavy components and guarantees precise positioning throughout the entire handling process.

The system utilises two HIWIN linear axes with HM-B toothed belt drives on the X-axis, a bridge axis with an HB-B toothed belt drive on the Y-axis, and two bridge axes with HB-R rack and pinion drives for vertical movement. The system is complemented by a DATORKER®, which handles the rotational movement of the components and enables their precise alignment.
The design combines high load capacities with large travel ranges, making it particularly suitable for demanding handling tasks in mechanical and plant engineering. For the rotational movement, the rotary drive was integrated between the two Z-axes. A specially developed belt drive transmits the torque to the customer’s application and enables the controlled alignment of the transformer doors throughout the entire process. This integration has resulted in a space-saving and robust solution. In addition, a customised energy chain guide was developed and the system adapted to the specific requirements of the heavy-duty application. The result is a high-performance automation solution that combines various linear and rotational movements in a single system, thereby supporting an efficient material flow.
