Principle of operation of a linear guideway
A linear guideway makes it possible to move in a linear motion with rolling elements. The use of balls and rolls between the rail and block in a linear guideway makes precise linear movements possible.

Displacement resistance depending on lubrication condition
The displacement resistance of a carriage depends on many factors, e.g. load, temperature, lubricant (grease, fluid grease, oil), lubricant quantity, travel speed, series, size or the sealing system. A concrete specification of the displacement resistance is therefore only possible with defined general conditions. An essential factor here is the lubricant and the lubrication condition. Especially in freshly lubricated condition, the displacement resistance is clearly increased. However, after a running-in period of 15 metres, the displacement resistance is reduced again by approx. 50%.
E2 long-term lubrication unit of a linear guideway
The E2 long-term lubrication unit for our linear units of series HG/QH, RG and EG/QE make it possible to greatly lengthen lubrication intervals, thereby reducing the number of maintenance cycles. The oil in the lubrication tank is pumped to the lubrication plate via the connecting piece (capillary effect). The oil is dispensed onto the profile rail via the contact surfaces of the lubrication plate.

Linear guideway – grease lubrication via lubricating nipple
In the following video, you can see how a lubricating nipple adapter can be mounted on the carriage of a linear guideway. This reduces the effort for lubrication to a minimum. Lubricants basically reduce wear, protect the component from contamination and thus extend the service life. The lubricant is a constructional element and should therefore be taken into consideration when designing a machine. Like any rolling bearing, HIWIN linear guideways also require an adequate supply of lubricant. Both grease and oil lubrication are possible.
